Post Modern Era

I want to focus this blog period on the Post Modern Era Architectures.  There are beautiful works of art formed into functioning buildings, and that is what I like the most about the Architectures.

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab is a high end, seven star hotel located in Dubai, United Arab Emarites.  The structure of the hotel is to resemble that of a sail of the ship. The sail of the build was built by many architects that was led by Tom Wright. The building was started in 1994 and completed in 1999, a 5 year build for one of the most photographed hotels in the world.  This huge work of art had to pull on many engineers to complete the many wonders of its shape and location. The hotel sits on an artificial island on the coast, where the base of the island had to be created starting many meters below the waters surface. There are many luxurious features to this beautiful hotel, some of them being the helipad on the top of the building, to the tennis course, and down to the under water restaurant that gives you a view of the sea life around the building.
I can see the shape of the building as the first thing that comes to mind when looking at the art aspect.  The use of double lines in the mast gives the building dimension. The scallop of the sail trim acts as motion it blowing in the wind.  And the white of the sail is clearly spoken for as this white huge sail is dominated over the oceans front view from the city. The lighting effects shown after sunset is another spectacle to be seen, lights from the mast to the sail is an array of colors like the rainbow.
This building is very impressive down to the details of the building. I would love to experience this hotel first hand either as a world traveling guest or a newly to be wed bride in their bridal suite.

Burj Khalifa
Anther one of the top 15 wonders of Dubia is the Burj Khalifa. This is the tallest man made building in the world up until 2009. Like the Burl Al Arab, it too is located in Dubai, United Arab Emarites. The construction of the building started in 2004 and was completed in 2009, another 5 year project build. Burj Khalifa was designed by Adrian Smith firm who also designed One World Trade Center. The design had the region and functionality in mind, it was designed after the Islamic architect of the region. Its shape of the building, "Y-shape" was used to utilize outside lighting to all areas of the living spaces.

The cool structural lay out is designed to support the vertical structure that juts out of the ground. Its as thought each level is like a specially shaped disc, all carefully stacked like a Lego tower.
The ides of the building of Burj Khalifa was to portray the image of Dubia from the Oil industry to an industry of tourism.
The shiny metal use of the out side building gives this like a needle like image. Almost as thought the intention of injecting something into the atmosphere. This is also the perfect metal finish to capture the light of the sun from any angle of the city. It almost has a CGI affect against the lower developed background of the city. The splayed out base of the building have the three pointed edges, like daggers.

Palm Islands

The next architecture that I find wonderful and would like to present is not just one building but rather a project soo large, it can be seen from outer space. It is the Palm Islands created on the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emarites. In the photo you see three of the structural creations. The fart left is the Palm Jumeirah, the center cluster is The World and the Universe, and the far right is the Palm Deira. This is first largest created artificial islands in the world. The areas consist of homes, shopping malls, marinas, hotels, water parks and many more.
The construction of Palm Jumeirah started in 2001 and finally opened hotels by 2009. It is built entirely from sand and rock by choice, no use of cement.
These incredible feats of humanity do not go unpunished from nature. The structures not only take up the spaces of the square footage but also interfere with ocean life and ocean patterns.
The Palm Jumeirah I think is the one that most resembles that of a palm leaf or tree. They almost look like insects or parasites most mimicking ticks. Like they are feeding off the coast of Dubia. It is amazing to look at these creations set out on the ocean front not like that of Burj Al Arab. And from the second building I forecasted, that is the only building that you can look out from and see the full lay out of The Universe other than the space station. This would be another wonder of Dubia that I would love to see in person and experience as a tourist.

Dubai Miracle Gardens

Dubai Miracle Garden - Wikipedia

Aside from the architectural buildings of Dubia, I want to also forecast the architectural design of one of the largest natural flower gardens of the world. Not only is it one of the largest natural flower gardens but it also is located in the desert of all places. Dubia definitely have money to be spent. It is located in the District of Dubialand, Dubia, United Arab Emarites. The entire garden was not developed by one architect but managed by two companies that used the Akar Landscaping and Agriculture Company to fulfill the needs and desires of this plan. This garden was built in stages or "concepts" of designs and later carried out as planned. The Garden holds so far 3 Guinness World Records to this day, and may hold many more further along its growth.
The many flowers growing in the desert shows another feat of mankind. This garden would never succeed let alone in a desert if it were not for the help of the human race. This spectacle of a garden also survives on that of waste waters from the surrounding areas, making it the perfect place for "grey water" that is further filtered for use for the flowers. This recycling process is perfect use for waters used by the populating areas.
This living work of art falling under that of architecture is a sight to behold in the middle of the desert. I would love to stroll the areas of flowers and to see the spectacle of arrangements.

Taipei 101

Taipei 101 is located in Xinyi, Taipei, Taiwan. This skyscraper was designed by C. Y. Lee and C. P. Wang. The construction of the skyscraper started in 1999 and was completed in 2003. The buildings standards leads it to be the tallest "green building" in the World.  The use of double pane windows and recycling water makes this possible to earn such awards. The style of the building can resemble that of the traditional Taiwanese structures that we know today.  The design of the building is so that it can survive from deadly Earth quakes and the tropical storms this area is known for. The Taipei 101 has 101 floor levels from the ground level, and further levels underground in. The tall structure uses a "tuned mass damper" steel pendulum to sway accordingly to accommodate the swift winds.
The Taipei 101 holds the largest Ruyi symbol hanging over one of its entrances. The Ruyi symbol is used to symbolize good fortune in Chinese. The architecture of the building pulls many together many Chinese symbols and ideals folded into its design. The first idea that pops out to me is the shape of the building, reminds me of the take out boxes from Chinese restaurants. This shape is used to symbolize the money box used in the Chinese heritage. The use of 101 in the name and the levels of the building is also symbolized as January first (1/01), this is also the binary system used in technology. The use of a yellow light at night time is used to symbolize that of a candle or torch.  There is further detail laid out through out the design and décor that uses symbols for each aspect of the Chinese culture and beliefs. I admire the attention to detail in the build when incorporating the culture and beliefs of the people there.

Art Tower Mito

Art Tower Mito (ATM) is built in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan by architect Arata Isozaki. The architecture was based on the Boerdijk-Coxeter helix.
The building stands at 100 meters to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mito being a city. An honorable 100th birth day candle if you must. The structure is made of titanium tetrahedrons stacked one on top the other at different angles to give it its shape. The costly metal gives this structure a shine seen at any angle you stare at it. The use of titanium by the architect wanted to symbolize the long lasting life if Mito to come. The structure was completed in 1990 just in time for the 100th anniversary of Mito, Japan. The helix structure reminds me on strands of DNA, carefully constructed and thoughtfully placed at an angle stretching's to the sky. The building is designed as a cultural point in the city, that dedicates three areas for a concert hall, an amp theater, and an art gallery.
This beautifully geometrical building brings together art and mathematical computations together perfectly into the spiraling affect that I appreciate very much. I would love to visit Japan in general, and if given the chance I would love to see this structure in person.
